Landing in Barcelona...<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First of all, take a dip in the crowds and head for the the old town and its cathedral<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wander around the small local stores and tapas bars.<\/p>\n

Take a stroll along the city's best-known street, which runs from the old town to the sea: las Ramblas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Follow the narrow streets to the Pla\u00e7a Reial<\/strong> and linger with a little vermouth, a wine cooked with various spices, garnished with a slice of orange, a green olive and a few ice cubes.<\/p>\n

Visit Boqueria market<\/a><\/strong> is open until 8pm, where you can also sample tapas and local products such as charcuterie and tortillas.<\/p>\n

In the barrio G\u00f3tico,<\/strong> you'll find restaurants on every corner and bars just about everywhere!<\/p>\n

Especially in Carrer d'En Rauric, Carrer dels C\u00f2dols, Carrer Ample y Carrer de la Merc\u00e9.<\/em><\/p>\n

Saturday: get a bird's eye view of Montjuic and the sea!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On Saturday morning, explore another of Barcelona's typical neighborhoods: the Pla\u00e7a de Espanya and the hill of \u00a0Montjuic<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pla\u00e7a de Espanya, recognizable by its its large arenas<\/strong>with its huge fountains and fairytale castle overlooking the square.<\/p>\n

This grand neo-Gothic building is actually MNAC, the National Museum of Catalan Art.<\/em> It's very high up, but you can climb the hill using the escalators.<\/p>\n

The view from the museum steps is superb.<\/p>\n

The Museum also boasts a fine collection of Catalan artists.<\/p>\n

From the top, you can see into the distance the Sagrada Familia<\/a><\/strong>district, theEixample<\/strong>This district is recognizable by its geometric character.<\/p>\n

You can also see the port and the beach from the top of the hill.<\/p>\n

What to do on Montjuic<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Then set off to discover Montjuic, the exciting hill that is home to the olympic stadium<\/strong> and its unreal setting, the Mir\u00f2 Foundation<\/a> and its sculpture garden, the medieval castle...<\/strong><\/p>\n

There's something for everyone!<\/p>\n

Sports enthusiasts will discover the stadium where the 1992 games were held, as well as Calatrava's tower,<\/em> this internationally acclaimed Catalan architect.<\/p>\n

Art lovers will love the Mir\u00f2's work<\/em> and interesting temporary exhibitions organized by the Foundation.<\/p>\n

Fans ofmilitary history<\/em> discover the fortress transformed into a military museum.<\/p>\n

And walkers can enjoy flower gardens and hillside parks.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

From Montjuic to the beach... L'Aeri del Port!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The cable car is magic! It takes you from the 170-metre-high hill<\/em> and reach the old port in a matter of seconds... For 16.50 euros each way, you can reach the port in just a few minutes.<\/p>\n

The walk is pleasant because it only goes downhill, but of course it's much longer...<\/p>\n

As soon as you arrive at the seaside, a completely different setting awaits you...<\/p>\n

A lively district with a vibrant atmosphere, where passers-by enjoy the sea air and stroll along the small ports and beaches. Stroll along the port, past the Museum of the History of Catalonia...<\/p>\n

If you've still got some energy left, at any time of day you can enjoy of the Barceloneta<\/a>,<\/strong> an authentic setting where Catalans come together to share patatas bravas<\/em>some croquetas<\/em>and mariscos<\/em> - seafood - accompanied by a cold beer - una ca\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

In the evening, stroll through the lively Born district to have a drink or enjoy a good restaurant<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Passeig del Born is packed with small cocktail bars.<\/em><\/p>\n

La Rambla<\/a> de Catalunya is also a great option!<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sunday: a day to discover the works of Gaudi!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Gaudi houses<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gaudi built houses worthy of fairy tales in the early 20th century. Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia<\/strong>Barcelona's Champs Elys\u00e9es, this chic avenue is home to two famous architectural landmarks: the Casa Mila<\/a> known as La Pedrera and Casa Batll\u00f3<\/a><\/em> a hundred meters apart.<\/p>\n

Metro: Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia and Diagonal<\/em><\/p>\n

La Sagrada Familia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Visit Sagrada Familia<\/a>This gigantic cathedral, still under construction, is a must-see every time.<\/p>\n

Gigantic and changing with the sunlight...<\/p>\n

If you want to visit, get your tickets in advance, because in high season there can be a wait of up to several days.<\/p>\n

To see it with a bit of hindsight, go to the Gaudi's Rambla<\/em> where you can also enjoy a meal.<\/p>\n

Sant Pau Hospital<\/em>just a few metres from the Sagrada, is also a remarkable work by Catalan modernist architecture. <\/strong><\/p>\n

And you can visit it for just a few euros.<\/p>\n

Subway: Sagrada <\/em>(Line 2 and line 5)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Parc G\u00fcell<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

To get to Parc Gu\u00ebll, take the green line and stop at Lesseps.<\/em><\/p>\n

Visit Parc G\u00fcell<\/a> offers a breathtaking view of the city, and to get there it's quite a climb. It is possible to take the escalators. To do this, when you exit the Lesseps metro station, go towards the Travesera de Dalt<\/em> and start climbing. You'll find the escalators at this height. This saves a little breath. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Much of the park can be visited free of charge, but if you want to sit in the main square, it's best to do so, la Place de la Nature<\/em>where the mosaics and the famous dragon<\/em> that you see on every souvenir in town.<\/p>\n

You can also visit the Conciergerie Pavilions and the History Museum.<\/em><\/p>\n
