This is certainly not because of the place itself, but because the idea of a cemetery as a tourist attraction is disconcerting. It does an injustice to the cemetery itself. The Cementiri de Montju\u00efc is a park that showcases the city's history of art and culture. <strong>which boasts some very beautiful spaces.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the end of the XIX\u1d49 century, the city had grown considerably and the smaller cemeteries could not be expanded. Consequently, new land was sought. <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourbarcelone.fr\/en\/montjuic\/\">Montju\u00efc<\/a> then little used, offered an ideal solution.<\/p>\n<p>The cemetery was created on March 17, 1883, and officially inaugurated by the mayor. The first burial took place on March 19: Jos\u00e9 Fonrodona Riva, mayor of Cuba. A commemorative plaque at the foot of the grave introduces the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>Magnificent mausoleums, niches or tombs, the choice of burial site depended mainly on the willingness of family members to invest in the grave and its care. Ground tombs and mausoleums are the cemetery's particular attractions. On site, you can <strong>also see a Roman crematorium.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc128874034\"><\/a><strong>A place that has adapted over time<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Originally, the cemetery was designed as a symmetrical system, but as it grew, the steep Montjuic area was also adapted. From 1960 onwards, Cementri de Conserolla was Barcelona's new main cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>More than 152,000 people are buried in Montju\u00efc cemetery.
