Fortunately, the palace can be visited at certain times. You'd be right, because the building's construction<strong> lasted over 200 years<\/strong>beginning in the early XV\u1d49 century and ending in the mid XVII\u1d49 century.<\/p>\n<p>You will see that the fa\u00e7ade, which is in the clear neoclassical style, features <strong>various Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque elements<\/strong>. In addition to all these architectural styles, there's another highlight, which is the existence of the four granite columns on the fa\u00e7ade. These columns have even more historical significance, as they are over 1900 years old and come from the ancient region of Troy, a city in present-day Turkey.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc129945268\"><\/a><strong>Things to see inside the Generalitat de Catalunya palace<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the columns and facades, there are three other places to discover in this palace. Tucked away in the middle of Barcelona, you can first enjoy the site's orange tree courtyard. Its construction dates back to the middle of the XVI\u1d49 century and <strong>various official ceremonies are held here.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You'll then be taken on a tour of the Gothic cloister. Right in the center of Barcelona, it's a haven of peace. Architecture, <strong>a magnificent Gothic-style cloister<\/strong>. I assure you, you've never seen one so beautiful. A great place to spend some time relaxing on one of the benches.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, your visit will take you to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourbarcelone.fr\/en\/palau-sant-jordi\/\">Sant Jordi<\/a>. This is the building's main hall, where many important ceremonies take place.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc129945269\"><\/a><strong>How do the visits go?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As the headquarters of Catalonia's most important institution, it's not usually possible to visit the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya as you would many of the city's other places of interest.<\/p>\n<p>However, guided tours are available<strong> mornings of the second and fourth weekends of the month<\/strong>which you can book via <a href=\"https:\/\/web.gencat.cat\/en\/inici\/\">Generalitat de Catalunya website<\/a> in four different languages: <strong>Catalan, Spanish, English and French.<\/strong> I advise you to book your guided tour in advance and to indicate two possible dates, in case your first choice is not available.<\/p>\n<p>It is also possible to visit the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya on specific dates such as :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sant Jordi festival (April 23)<\/li>\n<li>La Merc\u00e8 festival (September 24)<\/li>\n<li>and Catalonia's national holiday (September 11).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, I'd advise you to opt for one of the weekend morning tours, booked in advance whenever possible, <strong>because it will be less crowded and quieter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc129945270\"><\/a><strong>What are the times for guided tours of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Guided tours take place on the second and fourth weekends of the month and must be booked via <a href=\"https:\/\/web.gencat.cat\/en\/inici\/\">this site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc129945271\"><\/a><strong>How much does admission cost?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Whatever your age, you don't have to pay anything to visit the palace of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
