As one of Spain's largest cities and most popular tourist destinations, Barcelona is the ideal destination for craft beer lovers.
With its breweries, brewpubs and craft beer bars, it's the ideal city to discover Spain's craft beer revolution.
This Barcelona craft beer guide will share all our tips on how to explore the city through a glass.
Beer in Barcelona: article summary
Beer in Barcelona: the Abirradero brewery
Abirradero brews over 40 Mediterranean-style craft beers in the heart of the district Poble Sec in Barcelona. Their slogan in Spanish roughly translates as "we make our beer zero meters from the bar". And it's true. All their beers are brewed in their Craft Beer Institute, just a few steps away.
Although they have 40 taps in the bar, they're not always full. If you're concerned about variety, don't worry. The bar has everything you need. A must-visit!
A restoration option
Abirradero also serves delicious Spanish dishes and tasty burgers. They have plenty of terrace seating. For food lovers, Abirradero offers home brewing classes once a month.
BlackLab Brewery
One of my favorites, BlackLab beer comes from a family business created by the marriage of Matt and Jing, two families of American and Chinese descent. Founded in 2014, Blacklab Brewery brews beers with an American flavour.
Stop for a bite to eat
Blacklab's cuisine offers non-traditional gourmet dishes with an Asian-American twist in an east-west menu. There's a large outdoor area, and they offer live music almost every week.
Beer in Barcelona: Garage Beer
Garage Beer Barcelona is probably one of Barcelona's most popular and well-known breweries among locals. Located in the L'Eixample districtIt's a cosy place, with a small bar. At the back, you'll find tables and a handful of leather sofas, all with a view of the beer-making facilities.
For enthusiasts, this is surely Barcelona's most difficult craft beer brewery to visit. Their menu is very messy and complicated to understand. However, if you trust the team in charge of the place enough, I can assure you that you'll have a perfect evening!
Le Brew Pub Le Sec
Another option in the Poble SecBrew Pub Le Sec brews its own craft beers on site, in a handful of tanks upstairs. They also offer other craft beers from some of their favorite vintages.
Various types of beer are available for tasting. Charcuterie and tasty tapas are also available. A perfect place to spend an evening with friends over a drink!
Beer in Barcelona: Le Mikkeller
The Mikkeller bar looks more like a Scandinavian café than a craft beer bar. That's no surprise, since this is a Danish brewer with a worldwide presence. They offer 24 draught beers.
The Mikkeller Bar is located in the old part of the Eixample district. The establishment works closely with local Spanish brewers to showcase their craft beers alongside those of Mikkeller. The bar also serves tasty Catalan dishes until midnight.
Where is the best bar in Barcelona to drink craft beer?
There are so many other pubs and bars in Barcelona that specialize in craft beer, or cervesa artesana. They're scattered all over the city. Some are very much like traditional pubs, while others are more like restaurants offering a good selection of craft beers.
However, you can find what you're looking for at the BierCaB. The BierCaB is a gourmet pub filled with craft beers. With 30 beer taps, the venue offers a wide selection of tasty Spanish wines, sandwiches and of course Jamon. For me, this is one of the best places to enjoy a delicious craft beer in the heart of Barcelona!
You know where to find your beer. On your next outing to Barcelona, I recommend a tour of the city's bars and pubs. discover local life with a good beer in hand!
