Far from the modernist creations of Gaudi, there are several art galleries in Barcelona which exhibits the greatest Catalan artists.

The National Museum of Catalan Art occupies one of Barcelona's most majestic buildings. It is located in the relaxed, bohemian district of Montjuicperched high above the city.
Here, you can devour works of art from a variety of eras, including Renaissance, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque pieces. As well as modern paintings and sculptures, there are also strange and unusual artefacts. a huge collection of Catalan art to explore.

The Picasso Museum
One of the world's most beloved artists lived in Barcelona for much of his life, so it's only logical that he should have his own exhibition in the city. Visit Museu Picasso is, in fact, Barcelona's most visited gallery and houses one of the world's most extensive collections of the artist's works.
The works are presented in chronological order, from the artist's earliest paintings to his later experiments. Here, you can immerse yourself in Picasso's life and work. in his ever-evolving creative style.
For me, the Picasso Museum is a must-see when visiting Barcelona.
Art gallery in Barcelona: MACBA
As a bastion of contemporary art, MACBA (Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona) is a perfect example of Barcelona's eclectic art scene. Featuring superb paintings, abstract pieces and a host of original installations, it highlights some of the finest artistic discoveries of the second half of the 20th century.
With a regularly rotating exhibition program that changes every 3 months or so, it's a portal to the new-age work of some of Catalonia's finest artists. Here too, I devoted an article to the subject some time ago. You can visit you can read it here.
The Joan Miró Museum
Miro's abstract deluges and colorful geometrical pieces deserve a gallery of their own. La Fundacion Joan Miro manages to show them off perfectly.
Boasting a massive collection of paintings, sculptures, tapestries and early sketches by the artist, it highlights the evolution of Miro's work and his growth as a world-renowned artist.
When you enter this place, you'll discover one of the most beautiful parts of Joan Miro's work.

Art gallery in Barcelona: the Antoni Tapies Foundation
Another passionate Barcelona native, Antoni Tapies, died recently in 2012. Until then, he had been one of Barcelona's most popular artists, creating esoteric pieces that baffled people.
Today, the collection brings together many carefully selected paintings of the finest works by artists. It is also open to other contemporary Catalan artists. As a result, it's not unusual to constantly discover new works at the Antoni Tapies Foundation.
The Caixaforum in Barcelona
This cultural center is beautifully housed in a former modernist factory and boasts a stunning collection of contemporary art. Temporary exhibitions explore current social themes and issues.
The permanent gallery houses works by famous artists such as Antoni Tapies and Miquel Barcelo. If you're looking to discover the city's ever-changing contemporary art scene, the CaixaForum is the place to go.
As you can see, Barcelona is brimming with art galleries of all kinds. Identifying and promoting a number of major artists, the city always offers new works for locals and tourists to discover.
