Barcelona residents remember watching in amazement as the bullring was lifted by 400 hydraulic jacks.
Construction work encountered numerous setbacks. The project became embroiled in various controversies. Work came to a standstill at times, but the center finally opened in March 2011. In the final structure, the facade is raised and rests on a ring of concrete and steel columns.
