The Barcelona Marathon is called the Zurich Marató de Barcelona and takes advantage of the wonderful Mediterranean climate.
It was created in 1978 and is an annual event.
Nicknamed the Zurich Marathon because Zurich Insurance Group is the main sponsor of the marathon. The organizer is Amaury Sport Organisation.
The race starts in the Place d'Espagne and the route truly encompasses the whole city, from the Camp Nou (Barça's mythical soccer stadium) via the Sagrada, the Sant Andreu district, a large section of the Meridiana (the avenue that crosses the city) and back to the beach.
The loop is huge, covering more than 40 kilometers.
The next edition will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2020!
How do I register?
Registration is online on the marathon website: https://www.zurichmaratobarcelona.es/fra/
How and where to pick up your race number
Once you have registered online, you will receive a confirmation email containing your race number.
If this number is not listed, it is also available on the website the week before the event.
You must pick up your number at Expo Sports and this, with your identity card or passport.
Please note: race numbers cannot be collected on race day!

Ecomarathon: waste management, augmented public transport and chemical sinks
The city of Barcelona and the marathon organizers have put in place a series of measures to make the marathon as environmentally friendly as possible.
Riders are therefore asked to to respect these measures.
First of all, there are hundreds of containers all over the city and it is imperative to sort waste.
The city has also set up more public transport to make it quick and easy to get to the start of the race.
How do I get to the race entrance?
Getting to the marathon entrance is easy:
– by metro (Plaça de Espanya - Line 3 Green and Line 1 Red);
- en bus :13. 23. 37. 46. 50. 65. 79. 91. 150. 165 y V7;
- If you arrive by train, the easiest way is to arrive from the Estació Sants which is about fifteen minutes' walk from the start of the race;
- The peripheral trains - RENFE RODALIES - have set up a collaboration and all race participants can travel free of charge (R11. R12. R13. R14. R15. R16).
A checkroom system: where and when to leave your belongings?
You can come drop off your belongings between 6.30am and 8.15am.
Please note, the race starts at 8:30!
Items should be dropped off at the Fira / Italian pavilion.
Of course, it's forbidden to run with backpacks, as they could get in the way of you and other runners.
Facilities available at the exit
Several services are available once you have completed the race:
- The liquid cooling zone ;
- Presentation of medals ;
- Physical recovery area including physiotherapy and podiatry;
- The podiums;
- Various information points ;
- The buses that take you to the showers (Av. Rius i Taulet (Caixa Forum) to Piscine Picornell).
The activities
- The Saturday before the marathon: the Pasta Party
At Expo Sports, on the eve of the marathon (from 12pm to 4pm), all participants will receive a pasta dish.
A great opportunity to meet before the big departure!
- During the marathon: timbalers and brass bands
Numerous concerts, percussion and brass band performances will take place throughout the race.
- After the marathon: Breakfast Run by MRW 2020
The 1992 Olympic Games were very important for the city of Barcelona!
At the Breaksfast RunYou'll have the opportunity to run the last four kilometers of the 1992 marathon, near the Montjuic fountain.
The race is free and starts at 9:30 a.m. After the race, you'll have breakfast with the participants.
The children's marathon : KIDS MARATHON
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, children will be able to take part in a 200m circuit, which can be found on Avenida Maria Cristina.
Places are limited to 800!

Over 130 exhibitors and 70000 visitors at the 2018 edition.
Every year, more and more visitors flock to the Fira de Barcelona to discover the exhibition stands where you can discover new products dedicated to the world of sports, as well as manufacturers, brands and distributors.
The next edition will take place on March 13 and 14, 2020 at the Fira de Barcelona. Recinto Montjuïc (Hall 8).
The Barcelona Marathon is both a fantastic sporting event and a unique opportunity to meet new people and discover the world of sport!
