Let's start with what is probably the oldest store in Barcelona: Subirà candle store. This company has a long history, since the Subirà family has been making candles since 1761.
In 1847, the business moved to its current location: a former clothing store in Baixada de la Llibreteria. From 1875, when the first private electrical installations began to appear in Barcelona, the company suffered a serious setback which, fortunately, did not cause the owners to give up.

L'herboristeria del rei
We continue in the Gothic Quarter to enter Barcelona's oldest herbalist shop: Herboristeria del Rei.
Founded in 1818, it has since devoted itself to the sale of medicinal herbs and natural remedies. On its shelves, you'll find around 200 varieties of native Catalan plants. However, this is not its only attraction, as the establishment is also distinguished by its decoration and spectacular Carrara marble fountain, dedicated to naturalist Carlos Linneo.
The store has been declared a cultural asset of local interest, so it's well worth a visit. Opening hours:

Barcelona stores: Farga
We continue our tour of Barcelona's oldest stores with a stop at one of Barcelona's favorite haunts for centuries: a boutique specializing in chocolate.
Chocolate shops abound in Barcelona, although none is as old as the Fargas chocolate factory. First mentioned in 1826, it's a veritable institution. in chocolate manufacturing. Among its most popular products are the irresistible càtanies, one of Barcelona's signature desserts.

L'Antiga Passamaneria
Among Barcelona's oldest boutiques, it is one of the most surprising because of its unique offering, which includes fabrics, lace and other accessories used for textiles and handicrafts.
Founded in 1898 and heir to the elegant decor of the time, it has adapted its vintage items to today's demands and needs.

Pastisseria scribá
Now it's time to discover one of Barcelona's most famous and best-loved bakeries. The Escribà patisserie has been in Barcelona since July 1906, when Mateu Serra i Capell launched Forn Serra one of the neighborhood's most popular bakeries.
Antoni Escribà i Cases worked as a pastry chef at the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. His name inspired the company's new name, adopted in 1933. The company still has the premises of its first location. It subsequently opened several others in other parts of Barcelona. I recommend a visit to their bakery at Las Ramblas.
Here you can taste Tortosa's delicious pastissets, made daily since 1906, and the store's most popular dessert: turró, a Mallorcan speciality that the Escribà family has been making since 1976.
Barcelona boutiques: Obach hats
Our stroll through some of Barcelona's oldest stores now takes us to Carrer del Call in the heart of the city. the old Jewish quarter. When we arrive at this quaint hat store, we're greeted by an almost century-old hand-painted sign.
Behind the door, a family business whose origins date back to 1924, when hats were an indispensable part of Barcelona's clothing. Today, the fourth generation of the Obach family manages the plant.
There's a curious legend surrounding this place. The legend has it that the great-grandfather of the current owners opened the establishment because he had a very large head, he couldn't find any hats that fit.
