Beaches near Barcelona are unique in the world, and not just because of their appeal.
Forgotten bunkers from the Spanish Civil War, islands that appear and disappear with the tide and breathtaking paths leading to the most remote "calas" (coves) are just some of the features you'll find here.

Beach near Barcelona : platja de l'Illot
La Platja de I'Illot, literally translated as the beach of the islet, is located in L'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona. This beach with its crystal-clear waters one of this small town's biggest attractions.
To get to the beach, leave the car on one of the nearby roads and walk about 5 minutes along the GR 92 footpath. Although it's not an overly complicated trail, I'd advise you to take theuse appropriate footwear to reach the beach. And don't forget to bring your own food and refreshments, as you won't find any type of bar, store or restaurant on site.
The feeling of being away from the world is one of the most striking features of this beach which, despite being relatively close to the railroads, gives visitors an impression of tranquillity.
La platja Fonda
Fonda beach, in the municipality of Begur, is distinguished by its great wall. To reach this beach, made up of dark-colored sands due to the mixture of minerals, you first have to climb down a staircase which, although not excessively complicated, is not recommended for children or the elderly.
In addition to these tones, there are other curiosities in the area around the beach, such as the former weather station converted into a lookout point, or its submerged town. A real treat for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.
This pristine beach is approximately 130 meters wide and 30 meters long, and due to its relatively easy access is one of the city's most visited beaches. What's more, its crystal-clear waters attract locals and foreign tourists alike.
Beach near Barcelona: Platja del Portitxol
Just a few metres from the Empúries archaeological museum, between L'Escala and Sant Martà d'Empúries, you'll find Portitxol beach. This beach stands out for its natural environment. First-time visitors will appreciate the pine forest and extensive sandbanks, as well as its calm waters and golden sand. In the southern part, you'll find the Pointe des Coves, a rocky area whose stones are highlighted for their strange shapes.
This is not a virgin beach, as you can find various services such as public showers and toilets, lifeguards or the terrace of the Hotel Empúries, just a few metres from the beach.
La Cala Estreta
Cala Estreta is one of the beautiful hidden beaches near Barcelona. It is located on the Costa Brava, about 20 minutes' walk from Platja del Castell. Cala Estreta is in a natural environment, where you won't find a single bar or building. Its rocky ledge, also known as "La Roja" (the red one), is one of the icons of this beach.
"El Drac Adormit" (The Sleeping Dragon) is another of the rock formations you'll find in the western part of the beach and is one of its most photographed features. Its crystal-clear waters and rocky seabed make it another excellent option. to spend a lovely day at the beach.
Beach near Barcelona: Cala Futadera
Cala Futadera, also known as Pentine, is located in Tossa de Mar. Here too, pine-filled forests and crystal-clear turquoise waters make this cove a little paradise, but one that's a little difficult to get to.
In this fantastic beach, you can contemplate the incredible sunsets offered by this unique location.
La platja de Sant Simó
This paradise in Mataró is one of the most popular hidden beaches near Barcelona. The beach is made up of fine golden sand. On site, you can contemplate the Spanish Civil War bunker located on the beach.
La platja del Fortà o del Búnker is a white sand nudist beach. You can reach it by foot, bike, motorcycle or car from Mataró. It's worth noting that these forts are the last remnants of the Republican defense line in this maritime zone. Although many historians are working to preserve them, weather conditions affected them. In any case, it's a beach rich in history.

Located in the city of SitgesThis beach near Barcelona is well known to the locals. Its golden sands, services and easy access make it the number one choice of many tourists. From the sands of Sant Sebastià beach, you can see the town's famous turret.
Just 50 minutes from the center of Barcelona, Sitges offers a more comfortable option. It's the perfect place to spend a day at the beach. Last but not least, this beach is a beautiful place not only in summer, but at any time of year.
With so many beaches to choose from near Barcelona, you'll never have to wonder where you want to swim. All you have to do is get in your car and drive to one of these heavenly spots. You can then spend an incredible moment at the water's edge.
