In Barcelona, public transport is extremely good, but sometimes a cab that takes you straight to your hotel is a real pleasure! Rain or shine, cabs are a safe option!
And then there are the cabs, compared with other major European cities, are not so expensive...
How do you recognise a cab in Barcelona?
Easily recognizable, cabs are yellow and black.
When available, there are a little green light on the roof-mounted device.
If this light isn't on, the taximan is already running an errand.
Throughout the city, there are spaces reserved for cabs. But you can also a wave of the hand at a crossroads.
Stay alert and make sure the cab can stop and take you away safely.
If the taximan feels that stopping could put you in danger, he won't take any risks.
A cab from Barcelona airport
As soon as you leave the terminal, a large number of cabs will be available to take you directly into the city center.
The race to downtown costs about 30 euros.
Afterwards, you are free to share a cab with people you might have met on the plane or in line.
In Spain, it's very common to operate in this way, and we do great encounters!
Especially if your plane was late and you landed in the middle of the night...
When you exit theEl Prat airportcabs will be on your right.
Be careful, you'll have to take the first cab in line!
How much does a cab cost in Barcelona?
First of all, I recommend this website, which allows you to calculate any route in the metropolitan area : https://taxi.amb.cat/usuari/calcula-la-teva-ruta/fr
The minimum charge is 7 euros and then the calculation is made per kilometer. From 8am to 8pm, we add 1.17 euro/km. And from 8pm to 8am: 1.40 euro/km. Additional charges apply at the airport (3.10 euros), cruise terminal, main stations and exhibition center, and each piece of luggage in the luggage compartment costs 1 euro.
Taking a cab in Barcelona isn't that expensive!
That's right, Crossing the city during the day costs around ten euros. At night, it's around 15 euros!
And if there's more than one of you, you can even more profitable and more enjoyable than taking public transport.

I recommend this application which allows you to book cabs with ease!
Uber and Cabify: the cab revolt
Barcelona's taximen never gave up and protested for months against the arrival of Uber and Cabify. Demonstrations and road blockades were a daily occurrence!
And the 1er February, the regional government of Catalonia adopted a decree requiring users to book a journey at least fifteen minutes in advance, prohibiting all geolocation methods and requiring all vehicles to return to base after each service.
This decree led to the departure of two major private service companies.
You can try as hard as you like... your Uber app won't work...
Spanish company Cabify is currently in talks to re-enter the Catalan market... Stay tuned!
Beware: cabs are popular when it's raining!
Barcelona is a great city, but its main drawback is the rain!
When it rains in the Catalan capital, it's a bit of a disaster.
The metro can be flooded, and all residents have no choice but to take the overcrowded buses.
It's also an interesting time to watch the hustle and bustle. The people of Barcelona are generally in good spirits... but on rainy days, you can read their exasperation with their transport system.
And then we alternate between complaining and laughing! Because we also laugh a lot at this rain...
"Five minutes of rain and Barcelona is paralysed..." You're about to hear it!
Cabs are harder to book.
And if it rains at night, I warn you that cabs are even rarer...
If so, call to book or use the app.
Or fall back on on night buses...
Payment system available
In general, cabs are equipped witha credit card payment system and credit cards go through without a hitch.
However, always ask before you get on if the machine is working. If it doesn't, you're off to find a bank to pay your fare!
And that can cost you!
