Known for being the closest beach to the W Hotel, the beach of Sant Sebastiàand the nearby Sant Miquel beach are among the most beautiful beaches in Barcelona.
On site, you can spend time relaxing on the fine sand, swimming and enjoying the many activities on the beach.
In this article, I take you on a trip to Barcelona's waterfront.
Sant Sebastià: article summary
Sant Sebastià in brief
Sant Sebastià beach was already used as a beach in 1755. At that time, the people of Barcelona used to bathe here for the quality of the water. Sant Sebastià beach is part of a group of several beaches joined together.
Although they are different beaches, it's hard to say where Sant Sebastià beach ends and Sant Miquel begins. Together, they mark the beginning (or end) of the beach promenade of la Barceloneta. Both beaches measure over 1,500 metres.
While the place is popular with tourists and locals alike, this doesn't mean it's constantly packed with two bathers. In fact, there's plenty of room to avoid crowding the beachfront. So, if you'd like to visit.., you're sure to enjoy a quiet moment for a swim.
In terms of beach users, around 70 % are Barcelona residents. However, they are becoming increasingly popular with foreigners. For example, it's not uncommon meet many foreigners on site.
Adapted facilities
Some of Barcelona's most important sports clubs, such as Club Natació Barcelona, are located right next to Sant Sebastià beach. They train usually in a reserved area.
Sant Sebastià beach also has nudist areas. However, these areas are demarcated and you won't come face to face with groups of naturists. In fact, along with Marbella beach, Sant Sebastià is Barcelona's only other beach with a nudist zone.
You can also take advantage of the various facilities on site. Sant Sebastià beach has :
- Public showers and toilets
- Checkroom
- Sports facilities
- Ice cream and beverage stands
Thanks to all these facilities, you can relax on this beach with its special decor.
Sant Sebastià: the beach closest to Barcelona's W hotel
Another feature of Barcelona's Sant Sebastià beach is that it is almost at the foot of the hotel W. This huge sail-shaped hotel welcomes guests from all over the world. If you'd like to find out more about the establishment, I've written a full article on the subject.
When you visit Sant Sebastià beach, don't hesitate to take a photo of the place. In a way, you're enjoying a setting worthy of Dubai.
How do I get to Sant Sebastià beach?
There are several means of transport available to get you to your destination. You can take :
