Barcelona Zoo is located in the beautiful Parc de la Citadelle.
A few hundred metres from the beach is the zoological park with more than 1,400 animals of 315 different species where gorillas, Asian elephants, hyenas, zebras, dolphins, gorillas...
Spanning nearly 14 hectares, the park is gigantic!
Conveniently located, it's easy to reach the park from the sea or from the public section of Parc de la Citadelle.
When banker LluÃs Martà Codolar donated his collection of animals to Barcelona City Council, the mayor decided that the zoo would be housed in the Parc de la Citadelle. The park opened its doors in 1892!
Barcelona Zoo: a commitment to endangered species
The zoo is involved in various European programs to safeguard endangered species (EEP and ESB), as well as in scientific research programs associated with various European universities.
The park insists on the fact that they participate fighting the extinction of endangered species by caring for the animals in the zoo but also to raise awareness of contemporary climate issues, especially among children.

Eleven zones have been delimited in the park to separate species according to their needs and different habitat types.
There is a " Aviarium "for birds and a Flight Dome "where they can fly free.
Reptiles and crocodiles are grouped together in the " Terrarium ".

An educational place
Every Saturday, Barcelona Zoo organizes guided tours designed to familiarize children with the living conditions of animals in the jungle and rainforest.
Children discover the most spectacular jungle animals and understand the world they live in.
On Saturdays, children discover tigers, tapirs and other dangerous animals...
They are also familiar with environmental issues and endangered species.
The price is set at 19 euros per child.
Star animals at Barcelona Zoo!
Barcelona Zoo is famous for some of its animals, who have even become the subject of literary works.

A restaurant is available to visitors, but picnics and snacks are also available in the picnic areas throughout the park.
It goes without saying that do not feed the animals except as part of the educational activities organized by the park.
Zoo entrance fee
A basic adult ticket costs 21.40 euros.
There's no admission charge for children under three, and children aged 2 to 12 pay 12.95 euros.

The zoo is open every day of the year, but opening times vary according to season and day of the week.
