Barcelona may not have the street food of New Delhi, but there's plenty of very good Indian restaurants on site.
Today, here's a selection of my favorite Indian restaurants in Barcelona.
Indian restaurant in Barcelona: article summary
Indian restaurant in Barcelona: Swad
This great little place is on the list for one simple reason: it's a small, family-run business that offers warm, personalized service and one of the best Indian cuisines in Barcelona.
The interior has recently been redesigned. Now you can enjoy a beautiful atmosphere in a tiny room filled with the aroma of Asian spices. The food is to die for. They have a prix fixe menu for vegetarians and another for meat lovers.
I recommend the Murgh Malai. These are pieces of chicken marinated in yoghurt and baked in the oven. Their version is both delicious and juicy.
The venue opens :
- Tuesday to Saturday 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
- Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Le Bembi
In a more formal setting, it's the perfect place for indulge in the flavours of Indian cuisine. Chef Anand Negi learned the ropes in India, and it shows.
The place is a bit pricier than other Indian restaurants in Barcelona, but they have some good offers on their menu. If you prefer to try a bit of everything, I'd recommend opting for one of their tasting menus. They also run another restaurant called Rangoli in Barceloneta which also serves excellent cuisine.
Here, I recommend you try their delicious Saag Paneer. A classic Indian vegetarian dish that's beautifully prepared and with real paneer.
The restaurant remains open:
- Tuesday to Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Indian restaurant in Barcelona: Chennai Masala Dosa
When looking for an Indian restaurant, most offer North Indian dishes. However, India is a huge country and it would be a shame to miss out on the fabulous cuisine of the south.
As their name suggests, the owners of Chennai Masala Dosa hail from the state of Chennai. What they do is very simple: tasty home cooking from southern India. Their specialty is dosas. A fine crepe is served here with a choice of various fillings.
You can visit the Chennai Masala Dosa:
- Tuesday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
La Casa Masala
This fantastic Indian restaurant in Barcelona was born out of a food truck that was so successful that they decided to turn it into a restaurant. If you're expecting traditional Indian dishes here, you won't be disappointed.
Vindaloo pork is served like a Mexican taco on a homemade chapati. They've even created their own Indian version of the traditional Bomba de la Barceloneta.
On site, I recommend taste the green vegetable kormas. Crisp seasonal greens served in a light sauce with cashews and coconut milk.
The facility opens :
- Every day from 1.15pm to 3.45pm and from 8.15pm to 11pm
Indian restaurant in Barcelona: Koh-i-Noor India
Expect a refined culinary experience at this little place near Paral-lel. The halogen lights might make you think you're in one of those run-of-the-mill Indian restaurants you'll find everywhere in El Raval. However, the site benefits from its own income and offers flavors you've never tasted anywhere else.
They have a daily menu for around €10. An economical place that serves good food. I particularly like their butter chicken. One of the most popular Indian dishes is served here, as enjoying sweet, creamy flavours.
Koh-i-Noor India welcomes you:
- Wednesday to Monday noon to 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to midnight
Haldi Vegetarian Indian Restaurant
Vegetarians are often delighted by the options on offer in Indian restaurants. In Barcelona, there's a place you can't miss in El Raval. There used to be an uninteresting traditional Indian restaurant here and the change of owner and kitchen style is a big improvement.
As an added bonus, the owner and staff are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Here, I recommend the Pani Puri. This Indian street food specialty is a big hit. A real explosion of flavors in your mouth!
The restaurant remains open:
- Tuesday to Sunday noon to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
There are several Indian restaurants in Barcelona. While some of them don't really offer anything, you can rely on this list to help you promise you delicious specialties from India.
