The history of Parc MontJuïc
Old citadel for city surveillance, the park came to life for the first time. in 1929 at the Universal Exhibition.
Various installations were therefore undertaken to develop the site into what it is today.
However, dictatorship and political events forced the people of Barcelona to leave the premises empty of all activity, almost abandoned. Without counting on the 1992 Olympic Games, which brought the "Jewish Mount" back to life for a second time.
In the space of just 3 hours, we show you the the best of the historic center of Barcelona (must-sees + secret spots) with a French-speaking guide just for you.
And so, for over 25 years, this little mountain has been the pride of Barcelona's inhabitants, and today represents one of the most important cultural venues in the Catalan capital.
Mont-Juïc Park visit - Monuments not to be missed
The Joan Miró Foundation
The Joan Miró Foundation is THE essential visit when visiting at Parc MontJuïc.
The informed and even the uninitiated are well aware that Joan Miró is one of Spain's most emblematic contemporary artistsand, in particular, the Surrealist movement that made his name worldwide.
The foundation is located in Barcelona, Catalonia, for a simple but very important reason: it's where he was born and spent many parts of his life.
Very attached to his roots, for which he expresses his love in many of his works, it was at the age of 80 that he inaugurated the eponymous foundation. This is the center that brings together the artist's largest collection to date.
Painting, collage, sculpture, engraving, lithography, ceramics... Joan Miró's work is exceptional. The premises hosting this permanent exhibition are particularly admirable and well worth a visit in themselves.
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya
This is the second main visit to Parc Mont-Juïc: in fact, we are in the presence of the the world's largest collection of Catalan art. There are many works to choose from, spanning every century and every movement.
The originality of this museum is that it brings together some of the greatest creations by world-renowned artists such as Picasso or even Miró but also works by completely anonymous artists. The palette is wide and will appeal to the greatest number.
On the first floor, you'll find the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque sections. The 1st floor is devoted to modern art.
Like the Miró Foundation, everything has been designed to allow logical and very pleasant visit.
The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (National Art Museum of Catalonia) is a must-see on any visit to Montjuïc hill, as it is unmistakably located behind the four columns of the Palau Nacional.

It's a feast for the eyes: the fountain gushes out different colors to the rhythm of the music. It is also a legacy of the 1929 world's fair.
Situated in front of the Palau Nacional, it's also the venue of choice for La Mercè, the annual festival featuring an extraordinary spectacle of water, music and technical prowess.
