What to do in Barcelona in summer: the Greek festival
Summer is one of the few times you can see Barcelona's Greek theater come to life. This open-air amphitheater carved into the side of the Montjuïc becomes the stage for a whole range of performances by music, theater, circus and dance throughout the month of July every year.
The Greek Festival program usually includes some pretty famous artists, so be sure to book your tickets well in advance.
To get to Barcelona's Greek Theatre from the city center, you can take metro lines L4 (yellow line) or L5 (blue line) to "Grec" station. You can also take the bus on the H16 or V17 lines to the "Grec" stop.
Take a day trip to the beach
Visit Barcelona beaches are ideal for a refreshing afternoon swim. However, if you want to spend the day on your beach towel, it's worth planning a day trip out of town. There are a number of fantastic beaches located between 15 minutes and an hour from the city center.
Just south of the town, Castelldefels offers wide sandy beaches and good water sports options. To the north, Sant Pol de Mar is a picturesque seaside town with excellent seaside restaurants.

- The metro thanks to line L3 (green line) and get off at "Espanya" station. From here, you can take the funicular to the top of Montjuïc hill.
- Taking the bus line 150 from the Spanish Steps to Montjuïc Gardens.
Enjoy Montjuïc's swimming pools
If you're looking for a place to cool off in the city, but don't like the idea of sand in your shoes and salt in your eyes, the Montjuïc swimming pool is for you. Located on the slopes of Montjuïc, this municipal swimming pool was used as a diving pool for the 1992 Olympic Games.

What to do in Barcelona in summer: stroll through the Parc de la Ciutadella
Visit Parc de la Ciutadella is perhaps the city's most famous green space, after the parc Güellwhich is best avoided in summer, and is located right next to the trendy district ofEl Born. The park is popular with jugglers, acrobats, musicians and other street performers, and is usually busy with tourists sharing a picnic as soon as the sun shines.
Don't forget to take a look at the fountain in the park. bears a striking resemblance to Rome's Trevi Fountain. Here's how to get to Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona :
- Line L4 (yellow line) takes you almost directly to the site. Get off at the "Arc de Triomf" station. From there, it's a 10-minute walk to the park.
- You can also take bus routes H14, V13 or V15 and get off at the "Parc de la Ciutadella" stop.
Enjoy an open-air cinema
Summer sees a number of open-air film events spring up across Barcelona. Le Cinéma Lliure is a free independent film event held on the beach, showcasing independent films from around the world. A great time to spend with family and friends.
What to do in Barcelona in summer: try a horchata
During the warmer months, the locals love horchata, a creamy drink made from a plant called tiger nut. This sweet, rich drink is often consumed as a refreshing snack. One of Barcelona's best horchaterias is called Orxateria Sirvent and is located in the Sant Antoni district. If you want my opinion, I also recommend try their homemade ice creams.
