Which metro lines will I use in Barcelona (+ metro map)?

For just a few days in the city, you'll have no need to take many different lines.

10 lines cross the entire city, but if you're here just to see the sights, you'll need to know almost only :

1. The red line covers all the city's landmarks:

• Sants: Barcelona's main railway station;

How safe is the Barcelona metro?

And the 1^er February, the regional government of Catalonia adopted a decree requiring users to book a journey at least fifteen minutes in advance, prohibiting all geolocation methods and requiring all vehicles to return to base after each service.

This decree led to the departure of two major private service companies.

Barcelona is a great city, but its main drawback is the rain!

What are the differences? Are these machines worth the glance ? And their prices ?

In Barcelona, there are a number of cable cars and funicular railways.

Some connect to the sea, others climb the various hills surrounding the city...

 

Funicular or cable car?

The confusion arises from the fact that these two devices are both working with cables.

These are cabins which, thanks to their cable system, can be used to link greater or lesser distances.

Two different cable car companies are competing on the hill of Montjuic.

This means two possibilities You can take the Montjuic cable car from the bottom of the hill to Montjuic, stopping at about the center of the town and then going up to the castle.

The other option is to leave Montjuic and take the harbor cable car to the port of Barcelona.

Then, the Mirador takes you to the Mirador de l'Alcalde where you can enjoy the view as well as the terraces and gardens.

And finally, at the very top of the hill, the Castellwhere the castle is located.

I strongly advise you to take the cable car to this stop, as the ascent on foot is quite intense.

Even if the walk is magnificent, it's a good opportunity to take it easy!

The château can be visited and is also a museum of military history.

In the surrounding area, beautiful gardens such as the Gardens of Joan Brossa or Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer.

 

Open all year round, with a ticket costing 12.70 euros for an adult, round trip.

 

How do I get to the Montjuic cable car?

To reach the cable car, take the Montjuic funicular.

The Aeri del Port cable car

An unforgettable experience !

Less than five minutes to cross almost a kilometer and a half in the air...

A cable car whose construction was chosen as part of the the 1929 world's fair...

But if you're afraid of heights, don't bother!

However, the trip is relatively expensive: 11 euros one way and 16.50 euros round trip.

However, I would advise you to check that the cable car is working when you want to make this trip, as it is often under repair.

It would be a shame to find the door closed on your arrival after having come all this way...

In winter, it's open until 5.30pm, and until 8pm in summer.

This activity is quite popular great success and places are limited since only 15 to 20 people can ride the two cabins of the harbor cable car.

Be patient, as queues can be quite long...

 

How do I get there?

To access the harbor's cable car, you'll need to go to theMiramar hotel.

This five-star hotel is located in Plaza Carlos Ibáñez.

From the hotel entrance, you'll see a small booth where tickets can be purchased.

The cable car crosses the port and drops you off at the Torre de Sant Sebastià, near the beach of Sant Sebastià, in the district of Barceloneta.

You'll be just a few metres from the sea!

 

Funicular railways outside the city

The Tibidabo funicular

To access the Tibidabo and many activities such as the amusement park, Collserola Park or the BasilicaYou can take a straight 1112-metre route.

The first step is to cross the city in metro or in bus to the stop "Funicular del Tibidabo".

Please note that in January and on certain dates, the funicular is closed.

If you choose this option, check in advance that the funicular is in good working order, as this mode of transport often has to be inspected and closed for repairs.

Don't be discouraged, however, as it's a real treat to ride the funicular up this peak with your friends. a splendid view of Barcelona to boot...

The price is quite high, up to 7.5 euros round trip, but you can get a discount if you go to the theme park with a combined ticket.

 

The Aeri de Montserrat cable car ...

Montserrat is this incredible, jagged mountain, almost 60kms from Barcelona.

Built in the 1930s, the cable car is the most spectacular means of transport to the Montserrat site, as it crosses more than 1,350 metres in less than five minutes.

It is not recommended for travellers who suffer from vertigo, in which case we recommend the use of the cogwheel train.

 

The price is 7.50 euros one way for the basic adult ticket.

Bear in mind that the cable car can only hold twenty people at a time.

During the high season, you may have to wait a while before boarding the cable car.
